BACKSTAGE MATHIEU MIRANO FALL WINTER 2014 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Mathieu Mirano’s name has been in the spotlight of news lately – his collaborations designing some of Lady Gaga’s performance ensembles around the last months of past year, might sound familiar to you. His acclaimed Spring 2014 collection was even mentioned in one of Style.com’s section, titled: “The Next Big Thing.” And recently, the designer latest Fall 2014 collection, presented a strong and mature vision that surely will enthrall a new audience around his namesake brand. Apparently, 2014 has a positive-breakthrough force on Mirano’s path. Even new signs of evolution were evident when instead of a line-up presentation, Mirano opted for his first-ever runway show; which was held in the tents of Mercedes Benz, during New York fashion week. (Not to mention the stellar cast of models that also empowered his forward step.) Now, get why all the buzz going around his name?

Undoubtedly, Mirano has been true to his aesthetic since the moment he started his brand two years ago. But a huge improvement is seemingly noticeable through the conscious and edited vision exerted for this collection. In fact, the separate-pieces alongside the casual-but-luscious approach, palpable throughout, exceeded expectations. In the past, Mirano was too focused on evening-wear. But this time, he let go most of the embellished-craftamanship, to deviate somewhere different the focal-point of the collection by exploring new terms within the language of his brand. And via sophisticated, classic, and sensual silhouettes, Mirano reached the meanings of commercial wearability – a smart move that will help him to expand over the business side.

For Fall, Mirano cited motorcycle gangs, the crown jewels, and the snobbism of the royal family as inspiration – which resulted in a precise combination that counterparts tailoring as the quintessential aspect of this collection. He also mentioned luxury as big part of the core aesthetic for Fall; something that many would consider too optimistic coming from a 22 year-old. However, when the sleek black-bonded, asymmetrical leather biker-trench opened the show, it confirmed that Mirano is going in the right direction – at least in the one that will lead him to establish a strong base for the future of his brand.
