BACKSTAGE AND RUNWAY NAEEM KHAN FALL WINTER 2014 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Naeem Khan has a deliberately obsession with the words: confidence, attitude, modesty, and sensuality. For him, his designs must embrace the meaning of each of those words, reflect the signature look of his women, and also portray the style of his infallible clientele – who he never disappoints. Under the title “Decadent Boudoir”, Khan presented his latest fall-winter 2014 collection with elements that highly attribute his aesthetic as a designer. But who are the characters that play-well this “Cabaret” themed collection? Well, backstage at the show, Khan’s mood-board was filled with pictures of Louise Brooks in the film “Prix de Beauté”, or with Marquise Luisa de Casati in her extravagant and eccentric looks. That immediately lead us to the 20′s, the decade of the flapper and drop-waist dress. However, with a close inspection on the intricate detailing found on the evening-wear, we can say this is a more sophisticated version of the decade. For this collection, the color palette strictly ranges from black and red, to gold and white. But what definitely caught the eye, is the craftsmanship found on all of the dresses. Like the red Chantilly-lace column-gown with floral 3-D appliqué, or the ruby-red floral thread-work embroidery on a dress. And if that’s couture, check amethyst hand beaded gown presenting art-deco inspired lines, or the gold-filigree embroidery on a white-crepe trumpet gown – talking about highly luxury-wear.
