TRIPLE J PROJECT Episode One: JAMIE WISE
In an extremely competitive business of male modeling, flooded with attractive guys and fresh faces every day, models have to be able to stand out from the crowd to book jobs. Being a successful model requires more than just simply good looking, but attitude and personality are the ultimate keys. Recently, three young British male models including Jamie Wise, Jed Texas and James Smith have caught my attention with their impressive editorial portfolios and their domination of the latest men’s show season. In order to celebrate the British Invasion in the fashion realm, I created a project called “Triple J” (from their initials) to explore these golden boys’ personal lives, career highlights and their thoughts about fashion industry through a “Trilogy of Interviews” which will be released monthly; kicking off with Jamie Wise then Jed Texas and James Smith.
Jamie Wise’s impeccable face with the well-defined jaw line, marvelously arched eyebrows, dreamy blue eyes, and alluring lips, sets him apart from the rest and quickly brings him to the forefront of any male fashion world. His classic English gentleman look, along with his charismatic charm swiftly enchants the fashion elite all over the world and has made him one of the most sought after new faces. With his short time modeling, he has landed his first campaign for Zara A/W 2011 and has graced the covers of 10 Men Magazine, Carbon Copy, plus had an entire issue of L’Officiel Hommes Germany with four different covers dedicated to him. His remarkable editorial records include GQ Style Germany, Dedicate Magazine, Hero Magazine, Citizen K, Idol, Velvet, and Wallpaper, whilst making his debut at men’s fashion weeks Spring 2012 for Frankie Morello, Moschino, Daniele Alessandrini, Alexis Marbille, Mugler, Timo Weiland and Loden Dager. Without a doubt, this young Brit’s career is in full bloom.

With his popularity growing, Jamie hasn’t let the fashion industry gone to his head and is always true to himself. He still remains humble and tries to pursue his ultimate dream of becoming an actor/singer which it can be said confidently that he’ll be another example of successful model-turn-actor sooner or later.
In the interview below, the British “It Boy” shares his views on the fashion industry and tells about himself and his personal goals.
Patinya: Could you please tell us a little bit about yourself?
Jamie: I grew up in the small town of Whitley Bay, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England with my 4 brothers (of which I’m the 4th youngest), played Rugby from the age of 5 for 13-14 years. Decided I wanted to sing and act at the age of 13 and since then everything I’ve done has been to achieve that goal.
Patinya: How did you get discovered?
Jamie: I had just moved to London and was working 40 hours a week between merchandising and managing the cafe at Fulham Football Club when I got discovered, since then I’ve been out of England for 8.5 months of the year!
Patinya: What’s your most marked characteristic?
Jamie: Physically people would probably say my eyes and my lips. But I’d like to say it’s probably my personality! I’m pretty much up for anything and I try really hard in anything I do.
Patinya: How did you get perfect pencil-thin eyebrows, do you tweeze or plug them?
Jamie: I never pluck my eyebrows and never will!! I try to do as little pruning as possible aside from the particularly troublesome areas.
Patinya: What’s your view on the fashion industry today especially the male modeling area?
Jamie: I find it pretty interesting. It was never something I thought I would ever be a part of, but there are some aspects I’ve really grown to love. I enjoy some photoshoots a lot as it appeals to my acting side, I love looking back at a picture and seeing that they caught a specific moment that we were trying to achieve, that’s what gives me some fulfillment. Sometimes it’s the most mind-numbing experience because it can be incredibly time-wasting, but I find ways to combat that by reading, playing music and watching films, so it’s not too bad anymore.

Patinya: What’s your most memorable modeling job?
Jamie: My most memorable job was when I shot L’Officiel Hommes Germany and the Zara Campaign. I had to travel to 5 countries in 5 days. Started with 3 shoots in NYC, then flew to Copenhagen where I did another then jumped directly back on the plane to London where I shot 2 more, then I went over to Hamburg to shoot the rest and as soon as I finished those shoots, I flew to Spain to do the fitting for Zara! Was Insane! And then directly after that I had my first season Milan/Paris fashion week! Needless to say I was pretty run down!
Patinya: Do you prefer shooting in a studio or on location?
Jamie: It really depends. I love shooting on location, especially if the landscape is beautiful, but sometimes studio shoots can be really interesting to see what they do with the lighting. Just really depends on the clothes, photographer and the feeling of the shoot.
Patinya: Are you comfortable being naked in front of the camera?
Jamie: Yes I am. I thought I wouldn’t be comfortable, and before I get to a shoot I get a bit nervous not knowing how I’m going to react, but as soon as I start shooting I go to a different place so it’s not like I’m really there. Not that I’m schizo or anything, just my way of shooting!
Patinya: Any interesting backstage moments for your first show season?
Jamie: haha yes, Frankie Morello was such fun with Leebo and Sebastian. We were pretty much encouraged to get really hyper and be stupid. It was great fun, don’t really need to describe it, you can watch the video!
Patinya: Do you have to control your diets? What’s your work-out routine?
Jamie: Yes I do, although nature took its toll with me so I can’t eat anything with gluten in it, which is a bit shitty because I just end up eating fruit and salad most the time when I’m running between castings because anything else mucks me up! But I eat very healthily anyway. I eat pretty much what I want. My work out is incredibly minimal. I try and find ways to exercise in everyday life so it’s not such a chore!
Patinya: How do you balance your personal life and modeling career?
Jamie: It’s impossible, especially considering I’ve travelled for the majority of the year. I told my family and friends that I wouldn’t know if I’m available until the last minute and they all know not to expect anything from me because it’s a bit difficult if I have an important job and I have to miss something. But I still have a strong social life when I’m in other countries with great people I’ve met, and I still manage to have close-people in my life.
Patinya: What would you be, if you weren’t a model?
Jamie: My ultimate goal is to be a singer and an actor, still is and always will be. I’ve trained hard in both aspects to get myself to a good standard, finished University, finished training and I never miss an opportunity to promote that.
Patinya: What’s your personal style?
Jamie: My personal style is anything that’s comfortable and I’ve owned for a long time! I don’t particularly seek out styles or brands or anything like that although I definitely have been influenced in my time as a model.

Patinya: People would be surprised to know that you…..
Jamie: I love to act, sing, dance and bake but I’m not gay! hahahah
Patinya: Can you play any instruments? And what sort of music do you play and listen to?
Jamie: I play the guitar mainly and I play all sorts, I’m particularly interested in songs which you don’t hear often on acoustic guitar like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole etc, then I play the usuals like Coldplay, Radiohead and the Beatles. I play enough Piano to train my voice and sing my favourites from Les Miserable and Phantom of the Opera.
Patinya: If you could be an animal, what would you be? and why?
Jamie: A Killer Whale 100%. Those things are bad ass! They can swim really deep, they’re super-intelligent, super-beautiful, can survive freezing temperatures and their smile is pretty infectious!
Patinya: If I give you 100 million dollars, how would you spend it?
Jamie: I’m not sure… It’s a lot of money! I’d definitely invest it into something sustainable and that I could have some sort of effect of people with. I’d probably concentrate on somewhere close to home in Newcastle or London and it would definitely be performance based. I’m a great believer in the idea people don’t get an opportunity to sing and act as much as they should and I think it’s incredibly beneficial to people and society, so I would invest it in doing something along those lines. I know that sounds like a Miss World pageant answer, but I would legitimately do that.
Patinya: How do you see yourself in 5 years from now? What’s your future plan?
Jamie: If all goes to plan I’ll be singing and acting in the public eye. After that maybe I’ll revisit university and write a book and have my own experimental performance group! Will have to wait and see!!
Please stay tuned for the second interview episode of The Triple J Project, with the top new comer model, Jed Texas next month. In the mean time, you may follow Jamie’s twitter at @jamiejwise and find out how sweet and friendly he is.
