“When the Maison renovates another Maison”, those words were the perfect introduction for Margiela’s newly exhibition that infuses Maison’s experimental creativity that perhaps took as inspiration Martin Margiela’s renovation of the hotel “La Maison Champs Elysees” located right in the heart of Paris, the interior design project was given to the hands of the wonderful reputation of this fashion house aesthetic, which by the way; the hotel was relaunched on July 2011, all redecorated with Margiela designs. This new approach on architecture and interior design has given more freedom to the experimental work of the house, however; it is not the first time they have done it, all their life Maison Martin Margiela has designed and build their own shops & showrooms, portraying their infallible intriguing artistic perspective they are known for.
Maison’s relations with interior was displayed through the exhibit that showcased 7 foot images, some from the renovated hotel “La Maison Champs Elysees”, they played with the relation between geometry, architecture & space, the images are reflection of each, creating the mirrored effect that transported you to the exact place, in addition each panel-image had attached two consecutive objects which made part of the Maison Martin Margiela’s 13 line of objects, creating that sense of a “trompe l’oeil”; in which there was no difference between what was fake or real. Since the launching of their home object, line 13 in 1999; the house gained power and fame for its approach to art and mystery in sort of common ways. The pictures from the exhibit, featured some of the renovation from the new redesigned ground area of the hotel, including; the smoking section, the reception area, the bar, the corridor & one of the suites.
Thereafter, back to the exclusive preview on the store located at the Design District, we found the “Nightlight” a solely object specially designed for the line 13 and Art Basel, the object as previously mentioned, will be sold only at Maison Martin Margiela boutique in Miami, its handmade gypsum; a phosphorescent-iridescent material that absorbs light on daytime and during night time the object transforms into a form of almost fluorescent light.
