
Parsons, The New School for Design celebrated their MFA Fashion Design and Society program last May 15. “The First Heighten,” showcased the work and visions of the first graduates with main focus on delivering the identity of their work. The impressive work from each, varies in groups of highly executed-innovative clothing, film and diverse multi-media presentations. The event was hosted by designer and alumna Donna Karan & Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles, both have been supporting the project since 2011.
Directed by Shelley Fox, the project is letting the students apply an offer innovative and concise ideas to fashion design field. Since the program was developed, students have had the chance to showcased their work internationally. Last February 2012 students represented United States during London Fashion Week. And last year students brought home the award of ” Feel the Yarn,” competition they won at Pitti Filati 2011, finalist & winners were also placed in competition organized by the Met Costume Institute in connection with last 2011 Alexander McQueen “Savage Beauty” exhibit.
This year the event count with the support from the fashion industry, designers, editors and insiders attended to give the students their advice and opinions. During the event we found: designers Chris Benz , Ruffiian’s Biran Wolk, Victoria Bartlett, Carlos Falchi, Kay Unger, Gabi Asfour and Nahm’s Nary Manivong. The master of fashion publication Nina Garcia made presence as well with part of her group of work at Marie Claire including their accessories director, Kyle Anderson.
